Langkawi back for more World Tour hosting

 
Langkawi, Malaysia, December 3, 2019 – Langkawi will continue its growing presence on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour when it hosts a tournament for the fourth season in a row. 

The Malaysian resort, located on the Strait of Malacca, will host women’s and men’s 1-Star tournaments from Mar 12-15. 

Langkawi is regarded as the Jewel of Kedah, is a district and an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea some 30 km off the mainland coast of north-western Malaysia.

It first hosted a tournament in 2017 when USA’s Kimberly Di Cello and Emily Stockman won women’s gold, and Cuba’s Diaz Nivaldo and Sergio Gonzalez topped the podium in the men’s competition. 

In 2019  the USA's Lara Dykstra and Cassie House won women’s gold when they defeated Ukraine's Diana Lunina and Maryna Hladun  2-1 (16-21, 21-19, 15-13). 

The men’s gold went to  Russia's Daniil Kuvichka and Anton Kislytsyn after they beat their compatriots Andrey Bolgov and Vladislav Ermilov 2-0 (21-16, 21-15).

There are 41 events in the World Tour calendar with another highlight being the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games beach volleyball tournament which will run from Saturday July 25 to Saturday August 8.
